Digital Tipping

The cashless tipping app built for tour guides

Most of your guests want to tip — they just don't have cash. inPlace puts a QR code on your badge, guests tap it on WhatsApp, and you get paid instantly. No app download. No awkward exchange. You keep every dollar.

Cash is disappearing. Guide income is following it.

Surveys consistently show that 60–70% of travellers carry little to no physical cash. Digital payments are the norm in most tourist-source markets — yet tipping a guide still requires a pocketful of coins.

How digital tipping works

Three steps for the tourist. Instant payout for the guide. No new apps on either side.

Step 01

Guest scans your QR code

Your inPlace QR code lives on your badge, lanyard, or a small card. Guests scan it with their phone camera — no special app needed.

Step 02

WhatsApp opens with a tip link

The scan opens a WhatsApp message pre-filled with your tipping link. The guest chooses an amount and pays in seconds using their saved card or Apple/Google Pay.

Step 03

You get paid instantly

The full tip lands in your account. The processing fee (4.9% + $0.30) is added on top and paid by the tipper — you never lose a cent from your tip.

The same QR code also collects reviews, photos, and merch sales — see the bundle pricing.

"I run a free walking tour in Lisbon — I live on tips. Before inPlace, maybe 3 or 4 people out of a group of 20 would actually tip. Most said they loved the tour but didn't have euros on them. Now I get tips from 12, 13 people every single tour. My income more than doubled in the first month."

Questions about digital tipping

Yes. Every cent of the tip goes directly to the guide. We never deduct from the tip amount. Instead, a small processing fee of 4.9% + $0.30 is added on top and paid by the tipper — the same way platforms like PayPal or Venmo charge a fee to senders, not recipients.

TripAdmit charges guides 5.9% platform fee plus Stripe's 2.9% processing fee, totalling 8.8% deducted from the guide — with additional FX costs on cross-currency tips. With inPlace, the guide keeps 100% and the tipper covers a flat 4.9% + $0.30. For a $10 tip, TripAdmit nets the guide approximately $9.12 before any FX costs. With inPlace, the guide gets the full $10.

No. The tip is sent entirely through WhatsApp — which is already installed on over 2 billion phones worldwide. The tourist scans a QR code, WhatsApp opens, and they send the tip in a few taps. No account creation, no app download, no friction.

Yes. inPlace handles multi-currency tips. When a cross-currency conversion is required, a 2–4% foreign exchange fee applies. This is disclosed to the tipper upfront and is competitive with industry rates. TripAdmit charges additional FX fees on cross-currency transactions on top of their 8.8% base fee.

The tipping tool is $49/month as a standalone plan. If you bundle it with inPlace's reviews, photos, and merch tools, it's $119/month for all four. We also offer a $0/month sponsored tier where a local business (like a restaurant or hotel) covers your subscription in exchange for a mention on your guide profile. No setup fee, no contracts.
